THE WELLS OF THE DESERT, WATER IS LIFE
FOUNDED IN 2003, THIS NON-PROFIT ASSOCIATION, IS DRIVEN BY THE INEXHAUSTIBLE ENERGY OF ITS FOUNDER CHRISTEL PERNET. THE ASSOCIATION INTERVENES MAINLY NORTH OF THE NIGER WITH UNDERPRIVILEGED AND ISOLATED TUAREG POPULATIONS SO AS TO OFFER THEM ACCESS TO DRINKING WATER, BUT ALSO TO SCHOOLING AND HEALTH CARE.
The actions carried out to solve these vital problems show a positive balance with the construction of 298 hydraulic wells, thanks to the partnerships and financial support of local and international actors. Active in the Var, the Domaine de Bertaud Belieu has forged very strong links with the association and its stakeholders. A re-edition of the famous "Vendanges du Désert", a charitable and festive event around wine, is currently being studied. This event has been held several years in a row at the estate, in the presence of many VIPs with big hearts, and has been put on stand-by for logistical reasons.
A BEAUTIFUL STORY OF ENCOUNTERS AND PASSIONS
Technical problems forced her to land in the heart of the Ténéré and Christel Pernet was rescued by Mohammed Ixa. This rescue led to a solid friendship with the nephew of Mano Dayak, the Tuareg legend, who is a pillar of the Paris-Dakar race for which he is a guide and tracker. Jean-Christophe Sibelya, manager of Domaine Bertaud Belieu, is an old bivouac acquaintance, a lover of rallies and Africa, renowned in NGO circles for his generosity and innovative ideas. Another key figure at Domaine Bertaud Belieu is Karim Jeribi, a long-time friend. This very active partner of the association Les Puits du Désert has earned total legitimacy as he devoted 3 full years of his life, as a volunteer in the field, after his studies. She also knows him well. During school holidays, he used to stay at her place for skiing. Life is just a series of encounters... The saying applies perfectly to the Puits du Désert/Domaine de Bertaud Belieu partnership for which Christel Pernet proves to be the precious thread that has linked all these characters together.
